It must also satisfy the condition of having value (if the reward is deemed to have valence) and instrumentality (if one’s action and goal are connected).

  4. Goal-Setting Theory: This theory, formulated by Edwin Locke, states, if a goal be a specific, difficult one but attainable, that increased motivation would follow. When striving towards specific goals combined together with performance feedback, motivation would increase.
